Grandma is a 19 yr old Grade Black Quarter Horse Mare. She is a safe, sane, sound horse that anyone can ride. She has been put through the Downunder Horsemanship Fundamentals Program and currently is in intermediate level. Grandma is a safe step up for someone who wants to learn how to ride with their feet and body. She knows the lessons and she could excel some ones seat but respect is not transferable and you must put in the time if you want to learn. She will help you get your skills up safely. HISTORY—Grandma had reining training in her younger years but papers were lost. She went on to be a lesson horse for kids. She was patterned on barrels and gaming events. A few years later she was bought by a family who needed a safe horse for their kids to help move cattle as one of their parents had a life changing logging accident that left the parent unable to help. She has always been the lone ranger in the field with the cattle so she is not Buddy sour and is low man on the list. We acquired grandma last year as the kids were off to college. She is great out on the trails but felt she needed arena work. She was put into our program to get her back to being light and responsive with body movement and build her confidence in the arena. I started working with Grandma as a safe way to build my confidence after having a total hip surgery. I found out It takes a long time to get your muscle back and Grandma has been helpful with speeding the process along. Grandma has the speed for events but I have spent the last few months slowing her down to get back to enjoying her life and not be so worried in an arena. For this reason the best fit for her is someone who wants to learn to use their body to ride. She is great at lateral flexion, side passing, open and shutting gates, moving the fore quarters and hind quarters. She scores a B+ at backing just because she is 19 yrs old and has normal wear and tear. We are currently working on vertical flexion but 19 yrs of different styles of riding is hard to fix in a few months. She is currently regaining her spin as well. She is looking for someone with light hands, loving heart and not to go back to running games. Gma is the easiest keeper in our barn. She just looks at food and gains weight. You can stall her or have her in a field. Easy to catch as she finds you. She gets along with all other horses. She is excellent at loading, bathing and clipping. Why Selling: Gma has been a safe project for me to regain my muscle control and bump me up to my next level of horse. She doesn’t buck. She will stand still for you to get on and she is pretty forgiving. I needed something to build my confidence and muscle back up and Grandma has achieved that goal. She is now ready to help someone else build their confidence. Everyone needs to see how great she is and have a chance to see her. Somewhere out there is her perfect fit. The more people who see her then the right person will come along. She has worked extremely hard these last few months and she deserves her light to shine.
