Areva Cat is a2008 sorrel mare with some roaning and a partial coon tail, white on three pasterns, and a sock. She is sired by A Hocus Pocus Cat (NCHA LTE $164,338; 1999 NCHA Futurity Open Reserve Champion), who is sired by the incomparable Highbrow Cat (NCHA $84 Million Dollar Sire; Equi-Stat Leading Cutting Sire, NCHA; AQHA Leading Cutting Horse Sire; Sire of a Record 8 NCHA Open Futurity Champions and 21 AQHA World Champions. The dam of A Hocus Pocus Cat is the great producing mare That Smarts (NCHA LTE $12,448, NCHA PE $1,211,635, including A Hocus Pocus, above, and three full-brothers, Pappion Cat (NCHA LTE $343,096), That Cool Cat (NCHA LTE $259.683), and That Sly Cat (NCHA LTE $104,793). That Smarts is a daughter of Smart Little Lena, who needs no introduction, and a double-bred Royal King mare. A Hocus Pocus Cat, as I understand it, sold into a northern South American country and died shortly thereafter from colic. In just a few breeding seasons at stud in the USA, he sired NCHA performers earning $151,833. Reva’s dam is Peppymint Pleasure (NCHA LTE $3,836), sired by the notable stallion, Peppymint Dry (NCHA LTE $32,811, NRCHA LTE $392,219; PCCHA Champion; Ft. Worth NCHA Futurity Champion . Peppymint Dry, owned and successfully shown by Luke Bakey from California, is sired by the very solid cutting stallion and NCHA and NRCHA sire, Pablo San (NCHA LTE $15,000+, NCHA and NRCHA PE $365,564), who is sired by Peppy San (AQHA Champion, NCHA World Champion, Sire of World Champions, including Peppy San Badger “Little Peppy”). Pablo San is out of the great NRCHA mare, Paula Chex (King Fritz/Paula Gay by Paul Easter, an AQHA Champion . . . Both King Fritz and Paul Easter were owned by Fritz Watkins, home of the “Chex” horses). The dam of Peppymint Dry is Dry County, sired by the great Dry Doc. Reva’s maternal granddam is Doc O’Lenawood (NCHA PE $3,933). Doc O’Lenawood is a daughter of the fabulous cutting stallion and sire, Doc O’Lena, and out of a mare by the foundation sire, Driftwood. So you can see this mare is bred in the purple! Reva is a very smart mare. She is a thinker, and she figures things out. She is a refined mare with excellent conformation, is straight all the way around, has a nice head and neck, good bone and feet, no vices or bad habits. She does prefer to be in a field with company rather than to be confined in a stall. She stands about 14.1 or maybe 14.2, and she is built like a cutting horse. I would guess that she weighs 950-1,000 pounds. To me, she looks like a lot of the Smart Little Lena mares that I have seen. She is easy for me to catch in the field, load in the trailer, is good with the farrier, and is up-to-date on worming and vaccinations. She has had one foal, a filly, that unfortunately succumbed as a yearling as the result of a perimeter fence accident a couple of years ago. This mare was broke to ride, I believe, as a two-year old, but she was never put into training. Mostly she was just turned out into a large field with other horses until she was bred 3-4 years ago. I do not think she has been ridden since she was initially broke. I may try to ride her, or have a trainer spend a little time with her before bringing her to Eugene. Before I purchased her, I had a PPE done on her. At that time she had a clean bill of health, including a flex test and a check for navicular, a reproductive exam to ensure that she was breeding sound, etc. I insisted that this exam was very thorough. Although the mare does have an old scar on the front side of her right hind hock, the veterinarian who examined the scar during the PPE said that everything was fine, and he also said that she IS reproductive sound. No parrot mouth, no cribbing, or any other abnormalities. She moves and plays in the pasture with no issues, no lameness whatsoever. I was going to use this mare for an ICSI breeding this past spring, but ICSI plans did not materialize. So I really don’t have the need to keep her. She is a very nice mare, and I really want to rehome her to someone who will spend time with her. If she has this personal, kind attention, she will follow you around like a little puppy dog. If you breed her, I hope you will choose an excellent stallion for her . . . she deserves the best! Areva Cat is one exceptionally nice and well-bred mare!!!!! Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or if I can provide you with any additional information. 360-581-6450 / thehorseman360@yahoo.com Vaccinations: Sleep Sick/Tet/WN/Rabies (02/05/2021) Flu/Rhino Vaccine Yearly (02/05/2021) Strangles Vaccine Yearly (02/05/2021) Teeth Floated (02/05/2021) Equine Paste Wormed (07/19/2021)
